I've been working with Paws & Read magazine for almost a year now. I love being a part of this new magazine - a great source of information and a significant contribution to the community. Paws & Read helps highlight the work of so many large and small groups of hardworking residents in our local area, who help pets, pet owners and people in need, in so many different ways. It is also fascinating and fulfilling work for me, as I constantly strive to improve my skills as a photographer.
South Metro Fire Rescue
In the debut issue of Paws & Read, Ali French covered the story of how our local firefighters rescue beloved pets from dangerous situations. Battalion Chief Dave Daley and Paramedic Gretta Flatt shared some of their own on-the-job snaps of some of their daring rescues for publication. They told us all about their work, some of the rescues and the special equipment they carry for adults, children and pets.
Above, Ali listens avidly to Gretta talking about some of the pets she helped rescue from house fires and other predicaments.
Below, behind the scenes at Station 44 with Ali and Gretta.
The firefighters are in a constant state of readiness, so that as soon as the call comes in, they can be out of the station in a matter of seconds.
My job here was to capture a picture that told us something about the work of these brave folk. This was the image selected to accompany the article.
