Meet The Lloyds. They're awesome!
When we first moved to Colorado from London, they were our next-door neighbors. Also new to Colorado and neither of us having any family nearby, we shared holidays, birthdays, summer play time, snowball fights and many, many great times while our kids were small. Now, their two boys have grown into two handsome young men and they have moved on down to Texas, where they don't have to put up with shoveling snow off the driveway anymore! Just before they left Colorado, we had a fun day out in beautiful Castle Rock, where we shot family portraits first in the historical town and then climbed the eponymous rock to watch the sun go down.
There were a couple of recurring themes throughout the day - pennies and trains! We started off throwing pennies into the fountain, while Mom & Dad had a cosy chat in the background. We moved around town, taking advantage of a wealth of historical buildings, pretty colors and interesting backdrops, eventually making our way to the railway line and some towering warehouses. The boys placed one of their pennies on the tracks, just in case a train came along!
We were thrilled when a big old locomotive came rattling along the rails, although one of our party wasn't too keen on the noise! As we watched the coaches thunder past, the family moved closer and I captured what must be one of my favorite images of the summer, epitomizing a philosophy that these well-traveled folk and I can all relate to: "life is a journey."
Just as we thought the day couldn't get any more exciting, the boys realized that their penny had been flattened by the train! "Overjoyed" doesn't go far enough....!
At the end of the day, we made a slow ascent of Castle Rock to enjoy a spectacular view in the golden sunset.
Another fun day with a beautiful family, who we already miss so much. Here's a little tribute to these sweet friends who may be far away, but will always be in our hearts.
